The Band Oslo Snowe

Don’t be misled by the title.  This is not a typical cotton-field blues offering so much as an indie-acoustic tune that can be about anybody or anything. This easy going chill number is punctuated with  tasty fretless bass solos backed by riff-crafted acoustic guitar and solid electric rhythm guitar sections.

The Band Oslo Snowe debut video EP called Broadreach features the track, "Pray For Levi" which is the antithesis of anti Vietnam War protest songs that were popular in the mid 1960's and 1970's.  With a sense of deep sorrow and loss the songwriter of “Pray for Levi” composed from the prospective of a grieving brother’s lingering anger over anti war protesters targeting those in the service (many of whom were draftees) during the Vietnam War.  The anti protest verse, “Prayer for the boy, praise for the man. Johnny threw stones, than hid his hands”, calls out the ungrateful citizen protesters of that era that today avoid blame.

The inspiration behind writing the song was two-fold: An article written in Time Magazine by Daniel S. Levy (January 30, 2015) entitled, There Was All This Chaos: Vietnam-Era Antiwar Activists Reflect, coupled with the vitriolic messages coming from this country’s presidential race that has concerned both Gold Star families and veterans groups to name a few.

At the heart of the Broadreach track is the disrespect members of the military endured during the Vietnam War.  It was not a pretty site. No marching bands. No "thank you for your service".  Nothing--except epithets lodged by anti military protesters.  Which begs the question, why aren’t there any antiwar protester memorials in Washington, D.C. Levi, 23, was a draftee when he died in 1969 while serving in the U.S, Army.

This indie pop-rocker with genre crossing EDM elements was inspired by today’s media bombardment of video game heroines that are drawn with exaggerated and highly sexualized physiques. Part rock, part electro, the band’s guitar riffs and power chords ebb and flow around the main chorus, “There’s something you got that everybody wants, give it give it, give it give it give it just once”.

Round For Round is an empowering song for when you need to stand up for yourself and push back.  The song is from the first EP from the band.
